New water heater plumbing

I'm putting in a new 40 gallon water heater. I had been using a tankless coil in my old boiler which is being retired next month, so I will need to do a bit of plumbing to get this heater connected. (more than a simple replacement of an existing hot water heater) Basically, I need to re-route the supply and hot water pipes. They are 1/2" copper. I was thinking of using CPVC on the water heater and connecting that to the existing copper. Is that a good idea, or should I be taking another route?
