Washer backing up into bathroom sink.

Just a wee bit of water from the washer is making it through the pipes into an adjacent sink. I suspect it's all the lint, cat fur and the occasional forgotten tissue from the laundry growing into a pipe-sized lump somewhere. I wish there was some way to filter the outgoing water. How do I fix this and is there a way to keep this from reoccurring?

Fix it by snaking the washer drain and pulling out the crud. I'd start with your basic 1/4" diameter auger(everyone should have one), pushing and turning at the same time to get it through the trap.
