Rust around drain assembly

Hi, I have a home built in the 1980's. The tub is steel, the vanity sink is cast iron. Both are now showing rust at the edges of the chrome drain, but are in perfect shape otherwise. Is there anyway to save these fixtures, or must I replace them? I'm doing a bath update soon, replacing vanity and tile, floor, etc. but would love if I could do something to save the tub especially.

Thanks.

It might be just the drain assembly that's rusting.

Thanks, already replaced the tub drain and it's the fixture itself (both sink and tub) with the rust. Just don't know if there is a diy fix short of having the tub refinished.
