Softener: how to measure effectiveness?

About 4yrs ago I installed a Fleck TwinFlo 100e with 8x44 tanks, 1.5cu ft (.75/tank), using Purolite C100x10 (10% crosslinked to better deal with city water chlorine) with a gravel underbed. I initially set the TwinFlo to regen at 1600 gal. When the final fledgling left the nest, I reset it to 1200 gal, to keep nominal regen on weekly basis. I try to keep the brine tank salt level just above the water, but have observed some minor salt bridging. I plan on a full brine tank cleaning/refill in next couple weeks.

"Feel" of the water suggests the softener is still operating OK, but the engineer (electronics) in me wants to reinforce observation with empirical data. My TDS meter shows softened water at approx 300ppm, city water at 450ppm, though I know TDS isn't a good measurement of softener performance. Is there a test kit/process which will measure softener effectiveness?
