Water Heater Question

Our house has an AO Smith Gas water heater, manufacture date 1998 (we bought the house in 2001). It's performing fine, When/whether do I need to check the anode? And if I take it out, should I just have a replacement ready to go?

RE: Water Heater Question

You should have been doing this annually. And it's probably too late at this point to even think about replacing the anode and draining the tank. You should budget for a replacement heater at any time now.

RE: Water Heater Question

"You should have been doing this annually"... ditto!

What are your water conditions?
Water system or well?
Water hard or soft?
Any water treatment hardware?
