Flushing the toilet creates a sucking sound and rattling in the pipes. It sounds like a vacuum extractor! We are on a well system. This has been happening for two years. We are gone in the winter, and the water is turned off for about six months each year.

You probably have a blocked vent. Perhaps a bird or some other critter has attempted to make a home there, or leaf debris has gotten in.
