Sump pump air lock vent hole spray

Hi All,

I have a sump pump air lock vent hole that sprays and coats the inside of the crock with minerals. This poses a problem for things like my battery back up sump since it gets caked with a lime-like deposit and jams.

Is this hole supposed to do this? Is there a way I can direct the spray? (attach a tube etc.)

There is no effective way to stop the hole from spraying while the pump is operating.

You could deflect the spray or direct it with a piece of tubing.

The problem that can occur is with debris clogging the tube.

What size is your pit? Can you adjust the float such that the pump shuts off before the hole is exposed?

I am not sure how big the pit / crock is. I have tried adjusting the float but the pump cycles more often. I might try cleaning off the PVC and using PVC glue to install a piece of PVC angled down to redirect the spray. Seems easy enough.

Is the principle based on the hole being above water with air access?
