Info on the unit, as you can see right where the model number is there is a small piece of paper missing, and all the info of our water (back then) and date installed is faded away.

As you can see the Culligan guy did not do a very good job installing the CPVC when he added the chlorine injection, retention tank, and Culligan Medalist 12" charcoal filter back in 2003. We had the same guy who installed the newer stuff in last fall, he hadnt been here since he installed his stuff and when I asked him about the GI he said "that old piece of crap was already here when installed this" I thought Culligan serviced other brands as well? I wasnt impressed that we paid $125 to only have him say the GI is a piece of junk, and just plug in the Culligan unit. (it was displaying E1 meaning power failure, leave unplugged for 1 hour then fine, which luckily he told me)

What was the intended purpose of the chlorine injection system?

While I'm not familiar with your General Ionics equipment, it looks like it is just a softener. You would do well to scrap it and start over. If it is regenerating every 3 days, it is likely undersized. In addition, it looks like a timer unit, which is inefficient.

Other than that, I can't tell you much about what to do with your water treatment because I have no information about your water or your household. We should know:

1. Water analysis: pH, TDS, hardness, iron, manganese, alkalinity, bacteria, sulfides, nitrates.
2. Number of people in your home.
3. Number of bathrooms
4. Any high water-use fixtures, such as a jetted tub or multi-head shower?
