pressure relief valve

i am having trouble with my pressure in my Hot water heater, i am reading, 150 psi at the drain valve on the hwh, and subsequently the relief valve will go off. i have installed a new prv valve and set it for 50 psi and also have installed an expansion tank on the cold water supply to the water heater.i keep building up pressure and setting off my relief valve. any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you have the PRV set to 50 psi that is the static pressure in your closed plumbing system.

The air pressure in the thermal expansion tank should be set to that static pressure (50 psi) with the tank EMPTY

This problem MUST be resolved. T&P valves on water heaters are not meant to be activated repeatedly. They are a safety device. Have you replaced the T&P valve on the water heater?
