Demo-ing wall containing gas pipe

Hi all...we are thinking of taking down a wall outside of our laundry room to expand it. It is an alcove in our hallway that has no use to us. I have posted pics.
There is a pipe up at the ceiling for the gas line. It runs through the wall into a soffit. Can we just demo the wall and leave the pipe undisturbed?
Any ideas for going forward with this? We will be taking out the current doorway and putting a doorway straight on, instead of to the left where it is now. The first 2 pics are the alcove and the third is the existing laundry room.

Looks straightforward enough (easy). If you're in doubt about anything else that may be in the wall, cut some holes to take a peek. BTW, I would call this "wall removal" instead of "demo". It's a better frame of mind. (Reminds me of the silly DIY shows.) :D Good luck!

THank you. Any ideas about the soffit? It is connected to the wall I want to remove. I don't mind just taking it down. We will be adding a door to the entrance of this alcove so the exposed pipe won't bother me.
Sorry if these questions seem silly, I don't know a lot about this but it seems straightforward.

Black gas pipe is pretty stout... you will be fine.

Support the end of it so it doesn't hang free... but it's not made of glass.

You should know where your gas shutoff is outside and have the tool to shut it off should you need to. You don't want to be hunting for the channel locks if you were to get crazy with the sawzall.

Use a utility knife to cut where the wall meets the soffit. Remove the drywall from the other side first. You'll soon see how to deal with it.

In general, remove the drywall first and it shall all become clear.
