 o
best size p trap?

Posted by scalawagy (My Page) on

I'm installing a new tub. The tub has 1-1/2" drain connecting to a 2" line. It's a little less than 3' to the 3" stack, no revent. Would it be best to increase to a 2" p trap or use an 1-1/2 trap and then increase to 2"

code standard for a tub drain is 1-1/2".

Code permits increasing the size of a trap or drain line by one nominal trade size therefore either one would be acceptable.

Thanks Lazypup, for the info. but I'm still wondering if one way would be better than the other? Would a 2" line following a 1.5" trap, vent better? would a 2" trap preform better? Or am I just way over thinking this.
Thanks again.

Actually a 2" line would reduce the velocity of flow and could result in clogging more frequently.
