New faucet hex nut

I recently purchased a new shower faucet. Can I use a 1/2 'Copper' male fitting to the new (looks like) brass fittings without it leaking? I went out and got a good thick paste for the male threads.

RE: New faucet hex nut

If you're talking about screwing the shower head onto the shower arm (threaded), you can use "good thick paste" or a couple wraps of teflon tape. What's the name of this good thick paste?
