Leaking Pipe after installation of new equipment

We have a pipe that sprung a leak upstream from a new water softener. Could there be something about the water softener that contributed to the leak?

Is it a pinhole leak caused by acidic water, or a leak on a newly installed pipe?

Our water is alkaline Colorado River water. The leak is on the old pipe, not the new pipe. Yes, it is a pinhole.

Upstream means before the conditioner. Maybe you mean downstream, after it.

Pinholes don't just develop overnight. Probably just a coincidence. I would repost the question with "water softener" in the subject line.
