Need to replace thermostatic shower valve - Help!

The thermostatic valve in our master shower has broken, the cylinder is bad and replacement parts are no longer available. So, the only choice is to replace the valve which means we have two choices on how to get in to replace it. We can go in from the front by taking out 4 large square tiles (we have extra tiles to replace them. Or, we can go in from the back as a large closet is behind the shower. We would need to take out built-in closet fixtures, open up the wall board to get to the pipes from behind. I've gotten conflicting opinions on which is the better option.
Anyone have an opinion on which one makes more sense? Is one more problematic?

Thanks
