Any time you purchase a proprietary system with proprietary cartridges you are going to pay way more.

If you all you are concerned about is chlorine taste, a simple GAC filter will do the job. A standard system with standard cartridges will be way less expensive to purchase and maintain. It would look similar to this and could be 1 or more cartridges, depending upon what you choose to filter. Cost: between $30-$100

Cartridges should be replaced every six months, and look something like this. Cost: between $10-$50

Here's a very simple and FREE experiment you can try. This is something I recommend to our customers who claim to have taste issues.

Take a GLASS pitcher and fill with tap water that has been running for a few minutes. Don't use plastic as this can cause taste and odor problems. Put it in your refridgerator and let it stay cold. Rinse it out and refill every couple days or when empty, whichever is first. Make sure to let the water run for a few minutes before each filling.

It worked well at my house.
