Circulator Pump to Prevent Frozen Pipes?

This is our first winter in a 1829 home in Massachusetts.

One wing of the home (a former rental apartment) is poorly insulated and lacks heat in certain spaces. Sure enough the pipes froze during this week's arctic weather.

Luckily I caught it before they burst, and with the help of my plumber, we thawed them out and increased the heat somewhat in that zone of the house.

Relocating the pipes, providing better insulation, and heating the space more effectively is of course the long term solution, and we will certainly do that as part of a planned renovation in the next few years.

For now, however, it's very difficult to access the pipes in the wall, and I need a short term solution for the coldest days.

Online, I found this recirculator pump, which was designed for another purpose, but which is also marketed for preventing frozen pipes.

Thoughts?
