Toilet Drain Line Offset

Im going to remodel a bathroom in our 50-year-old house. The existing toilet hub is only 12" on center from the left side wall rather than the required 15". The 3" drain drops straight down and then elbows horizontally below, and perpendicular to, the 12" floor joists. An existing large sheet metal duct prevents moving the line in the direction it needs to go to get the 15" clearance. I don't want to use an offset flange. Would it be acceptable to offset the vertical pipe in the 12" depth between the joists to allow moving the hub 3" from its current location? Thanks, Bob
