Should I buy an old faucet?

I need to replace an 8 yr. old Grohe kitchen faucet. I won't carry on too long about how an expensive faucet should last more than 8 years and in the old days they lasted at least 25...I'll just say that I'm thinking about buying an old fixture that's made of metal. Are old fixtures repairable any more? Assuming I find one in good shape will a plumber be able to fix it down the road?
I expect to be warned off of doing this, so let me go ahead and ask what I should look for in a new one. Is anything well made? Will another brand fit in the Grohe-size hole in my countertop?
Thanks,
MsB
