Irrigation pipe size

I have a 3/4" main and meter which is reduced to 1/2" pipe just after it enters the crawl space on it way to water heater. I am tapping a new irrigation system into the line. I was planning on tapping into the 3/4" pipe before the reduction and using a 3/4" feed for the irrigation.I am now concerned about how this will effect the flow to the house fixtures if the irrigation system is on while a house fixture is needed. Would I be better off feeding the irrigation with a 3/4" after the reduction and just having a few more zones.

A 1/2" tap taken before the reduction should have little effect on flow to household fixtures as a 3/4" pipe carries twice the capacity of a 1/2".
