New here---sharing travel photos

I just got a new Nikon as an early Christmas present. I'm looking forward to learning how to use it better and hope to post some photos...

Great pics, I love the Bohemian village. Didn't know you could go up in the Pisa tower, thought it was a little unsteady!

Good morning everyone! What a wonderful surprise arrived in the mail and I couldn't wait to come show it off. : ) This group is filled with Angels for sure. Wait 'till you see what our dear Barb made for Talon..... It is so soft and the love that she put into making it shows. Can you see the two birds in the pattern? Absolutely gorgeous and so unique. Barb, once again you have touched my heart and I will cherish this tiny sweater long after Talon outgrows it. Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness. I absolutely love it! And my DH thanks you too. Can't wait to show the rest of the family. BIG HUGS! I have been sleeping for most of the day, otherwise i'd probably be checking in more. Seems like the more sleep I get, the less contractions I have. We are so close to the 35 week mark! I'm starting to feel like getting through two more weeks to 37 will be a piece of cake. My contrax. are still very much slowed down so keep your fingers crossed. I see the doc on Tuesday. Thank you all for your sweet words about my DH. He is so concerned about the good health of the baby and wants to do all he can so that I can rest. That in combination with his never ending work schedule is wearing him out. He has lost some weight and is extremely tired. I begged him to stay home today, but he headed over to the new house at 9am. It's cold and snowy. : ( What wonderful Easter swap boxes you all are enjoying! Great job everyone. Oh, and thank you all so much for the compliments on my beautiful neice. She really is precious. And such a good girl. She slept in her "big girl" bed (crib) for the first time on Wednesday night. I had to laugh at her Mom....Jenna slept on her floor! lol. I assume she'll be camping out in there for a while until she feels comfortable. Brooklyn had been sleeping in a bassinet right next to Jenna's side of the bed. Hi Lisa! Great to see you posting. Spring really is wonderful, isn't it? A time when there is so much to look forward to. I, too, like to sit and just "breathe it all in". Jean....oh...pooor Jean.....all that snow! But such beautiful pictures. : ) The rest isn't driving me too crazy. I am enjoying time with the birdies. They have been singing songs for me and doing alot of dancing. That keeps me totally amused. : ) Carol! Where are you moving to? I remember you mentioning a while back the thoughts of a *possible* move, but I must have missed anything else you said. Your DH is gonna' have to pack & stack all your plants like Herb did for Marea. I'm really glad the Pit Bull didn't get a hold of you. Actually, i'm glad you didn't get a hold of the Pit Bull. ; ) Shirley, how nice that Brittney was able to buy her own car! She must have been very proud. My Mom has taken so many gazillions of pics of Brooklyn so far. It's really funny trying to get her to smile. Those...

Thanks Shirley & Nancy. : ) I didn't notice the "smoke cloud" until after I got home and loaded the pics into my computer. Nancy, the entire exterior of our house will be brick, w/ possibly some stonework here and there. Not sure yet. We'll make it up as we go. But mainly brick (same as chimney). We bricked our current home back when we were remodeling it and DH did some "fancy" stuff....we've got several brick arches, quoined corners, etc. We aren't going to be doing much of that on the new house. I'm going for a simple, rustic look. The front of the house will have a porch or deck all the way across.....it's kind of hard to explain. I think we will be using a material such as Trex to build it. We are looking for no maintenance for the entire exterior and don't want to have to paint, stain, etc. anything. I've picked all of our colors to match very closely, but to have slight differences. Like the shingles, for example. They are overall only about 1 or 2 shades darker than the brick, but have mixed colors in them. One of the colors matches the brick perfectly. Well, i've got to get ready to head over there....we started working on installing a gate at the end of our driveway last night which involved much more than you would think. DH is building large soil berms (planting beds!!!!) along the road to keep anyone from driving in. In the midst of all of this, he dug up a buried telephone line and tore it in half. You can only imagine how furious he is. This was never marked by the utility company when we first started our building process and it should have been. So now we are at a stand-still until someone decides to come out and look at it today. I thought it would have affected neighbors (no phone service?), but nobody called to report it yet (maybe because they don't have a working phone??? LOL). We're hoping it's an old line, or maybe an unused one. It never ends....... HUGS, ~Dawn (mamabirrd) PS: No baby yet! C'mon Talon!! : ) I am soooooo sore and am barely able to waddle along.

You are not going to believe what Jo sent me for the Thanksgiving swap. I have been crying since Thursday evening. I'm having a tough time trying to tell you about it. I have never been so overwhelmed with a gift in my life. Here's the first picture: From left to right: My gift that will make you all wish Jo was your partner, is the ladybug beanbag pillow and comfy red fleece blanket. I will bask in Jo's friendship everytime I use these, and she made them with her own hands, too! In front of the pillow are embellishments for my Brian scrapbook, as are the beaded trims and ribbons you see in the picture. Jo knows I sew and sent a cool tape measure and beautiful sewing themed stationary set that says "Memories are souvenirs our hearts collect throughout the years." How true. The bag you see is a Brian R. dahlia (my very first dahlia and so special!) A set of three wrapped soaps to pamper myself and 4 mini pumpkin candles that smell heavenly. She also sent me more decorations for my Thanksgiving table, the glittery pumpkin you see, the golden candle that is too pretty to light (but smells sooooo heavenly), a large floral arrangement (not in picture) of burgundy mums in a pot with a big bow. The adorable birdhouse you see will have a special spot on my spring table. See the scarecrow and turkey? SHE MADE THEM!! Out of colored clay. They are so tiny and detailed, a tribute to her talents. I'm amazed. Jo also made the stunning vase you see. I cant' tell you how impressed I am with her abilities and creative talents. The vase will go in my meditation room, it's perfect. She sent me a voodoo lily bulb as the Doesn't smell good item. That made me smile. The bulb itself smells okay, let's see what happens in the spring. Jo didn't forget Walt (Reece's peanut butter cups) or Maizie (bag of biscuits). There were two things Jo included in her package that have had me crying for two days. I emailed her a thank you but it feels so insufficient. I've tried to call her but have started crying each time and hung up. Jo wrote a beautiful poem (it's in the frame) entitled, In Memory of Brian. I feel like she looked directly into my heart and put into words what I can't express. I was speechless after reading it. It's on my dresser now. She also arranged for a spring delivery of a plant I've tried to acquire for 2 years, a miniature rose named Brian Lee. I don't know how she did it, I'm just weak from her generosity of heart. Again, let me express how amazing this package was, like it was packed by angels. I think this is the most awesome package ever sent in any of our swaps up to this moment. Dianne/dian57

Hi everyone! Don't know what happened to my last version of this posting. I had it all written turned around and it was gone :(. Well my brugs are here at home. The very sweet woman who gave this to me and her equally nice husband who dug up and put into my truck each one of these trees made me feel warm and welcomed. Kristi, the woman who gave this to me even brought out toys for my kids so they wouldn't get bored. Not hand me downs - which are prefectly good in my book too - but new, in the box toys she keeps around for just this kind of event. When greeting with this kind of generosity, a simple thanks does not seem enough but she didn't want anything in return. What I brought home were trees taller than me, taller than the inside of my greenhouse. Well they've been well trimmed now and I have cuttings ready to go. Here's what I have to share: Rosamond Versi Peach - limited amount Mayan Magic Maya Arlene's pink Beauty Golden Lady - nice double - but be warned it has a virus. The virus does not spread easily but you have to clean your pruners before you go near another brug. It's lived side by side with the other brugs with no ill effects and grows nicely anyways. I just want you to be warned. Unnamed seedlings of her own crosses. I didn't get butterfly or the big Creamsickle :(. Someone else beat me to it. I can't really complain too loud because the person who got it was a friend who has given me sooooo many plants. Jaye - what kind of truck did you get? DH loves trucks. We've had quite a few. For anyone who wants one post it here or email me with which ones you want. Canna - sorry to hear about your kitty! I had that happen to one once. She survived fine but what a fright! I shudder to think of the pain. MaryS - Can I move in with you??????? That lake looks so peaceful. MaryB - Thanks! Dawn - Did you get my email? Please tell me that you've forgiven my rash comment :( Will more brug cuttings help?????? Hmmm just what I needed - Another plant to collect! Anyone ever had bursitis - just got it in the shoulder. Nice photos- I like the village and how the roofs are mostly all the same color. It gives a sense of community.

Oh, thank you to everyone! It's been fun seeing others' pictures on here too, and you all seem so laid-back and polite (compared to other forums around here) :)

Minrose, my husband bought me the D300!! I'm so excited! We took it out to a soccer field and threw the dog the ball, and tried to get some action shots of him for practice. I think we're going to be glued to that manual for awhile until all those settings become second nature.

Ron, I'm way north, near Grapevine, near DFW airport. I can see the planes at night taking off and landing.

Bigack, they just started allowing people back up on the tower in the last few years. Somehow they reinforced it and made it safe.

I'm at work at a dental office and it's slow because it's before Christmas.... so I have time to post! :)

This is the leaning tower of Pisa. It's actually a bell tower for a church, and the church and baptistry are beside it.

This was an interesting story. This is me with the Italian security guy (and that's not my underwear showing! That's a money belt so no one can pickpocket me!) on top of the tower.

Those girls around us were mentally challenged and from Britian. Their teachers climbed the tower with them and had them on "leashes." The guard, who spoke no English, took the "leash" from the teacher and led the girl to the bell in the background, and told her something about it in Italian. The girl just stared at him blankly because she did not understand his language. Finally he just leaned over and kissed her forehead sweetly. I thought he was such a kind-soul!

The girl looked stunned and the teacher laughingly exclaimed that she "just had her first Italian kiss!"

All of us were laughing together on top of the tower despite the language barrier. The guard was everything that you hear the stereotypical Italian to be---warm, loving life, and so friendly. I'll never forget him. ;)

This is the pic of the Roman Colliseum. This whole structure used to be covered with marble. The people in the pic are at the stage level, and all the network at the bottom-most layer are the hallways and channels and "elevators" that were beneath the stage in which animals were hoisted up for gladiator events, etc. Amazing this was all BC.

My daughter and her husband lived in Italy for three years while he was in the Air Force. My wife and I had the opportunity to visit them for a couple weeks in the fall of '06. Isn't it just a fantastic place to explore? They were just an hour away from Venice by train. What a life! I'll have to do some digging and find some pics.

Nice photos!

It's hard to see if the cable that is running from the Leaning Tower, is the one that is holding it in place or if it is a different type of cable.

I know they used to have it wired to keep it from leaning further while they tried to stabilize it.

I think they stabilized the tower with some kind of mud jacking?

Have you traveled Switzerland yet?.. my native country.
