I'm a frequent reader here but wanted to officially introduce myself. My favorite subjects are my kids.

(these photos are nothing special--just basic snapshots)

I shoot w/ a Canon Rebel Xti.

Are you in Texas? My wife is from Galveston, but, we live in minnesota.
I just have a point and shoot Kodak but would like to upgrade. One camera I've been looking at is the SLR Canons. How do you like yours?

Yes, I do live in Texas but I'm in the far Western part of the state. I absolutely love my Canon! It is perfect for my shooting & post-processing style. Good luck in your camera-buying decision.

Hi Pat, I am learning about this whole seed growing thing. When you put your small plants under lights...do you worry about temperatures in your garage that may fall to 45-50 F at night? Some say cold nights stunt growth. I prefer to do my lights in the garage...which is warmer than the February nighttime temps...which might get down to 40 or so.

UPDATE: I'm now off prednisone and the asthma seems to be subsiding. I guess all the measures we've taken (steam-cleaning carpets, HEPA filter, allergen-neutralizing spray, washing walls, opening windows, etc.) must have reduced the cat dander to a level my body can handle. I appreciate everyone's thoughts and advice. At the same time I have to wonder why many people were so quick to insist on drastic solutions. (I should add that my husband agreed -- he was ready to rip out the carpets from day one.) To me it makes sense to tough it out for at least a couple of weeks, assuming there isn't a true health emergency. I suppose I have a reasonably high tolerance for living with low-level misery, as long as there's an end in sight. If things had taken a turn for the worse I would of course have taken appropriate action.

If you notice, most of us have our zone and general location included with our names as we post. It's nice to not have to remember to add it every post, and gets us advice that is more likely to be pertinent to our location. Here's how to add it to your name: Go to Your Houzz in the upper right of every page, click Edit Profile, and on the left side click advanced settings. Well down the advanced settings page is a blank labeled Climate Zone for Garden Forums along with a link to find your zone. If you add info on your state or the nearest large city either here or on the profile page under the name posted, you will get even better information since zone only relates to average coldest winter temperatures. Then return to the top of the page and click Done Editing.

Thanks for starting this 1929Spanish and letting me ride your coattails. Ali, my feathers collection isn't that impressive to share actually but does involve a good story. A while back we hosted a neighborhood party where guests BYO drinks and there was a pretty little glass left on our porch that I found the next day. I posted a photo of it to our neighborhood facebook page so I could return it to its owner. No one responded so I put it on the desk in my office. Since then whenever I find a feather on my outings, I put them in this glass. It's got a few dozen feathers in it now so I may need to throw another party to get another glass.

You have really cute children. Maybe we will see more of them. We have a Canon Rebel EOS then noticed most people bought the XT. But ours makes good pictures even though I don't really use all the functions.
