I just remembered there might be a problem when using the old type of polarizers. You see there are 2 types,the old linear type and the modern circular arrangement(linear and circular refer to how the polarizing particles are arranged on the sheets) Basically when modern camera systems were introduced in the late 80s and 90s its was found that the old type may interfere with the modern metering and focusing systems. The solution was a circular arrangement which is how all new polarizers are sold. Not sure if there's too much to worry about-I have an old one and it seems to work fine on my canon;not tried it on my digi tho. And I would imagine that lenses from sunglases would be the old,cheaper to produce linear type.

I've just finished reading Barbara Walter's autobiography, "Audition". I've always been a huge lover of good biographies and autobiographies and have read too many to count over the years. But, I have to say that this one by Barbara Walters is by far the best, most interesting one I have ever read . . . hands down! It's an easy read with many , many great photos. Long, although it was so interesting that I wished it had gone on for another 100 pages. She has met , interviewed and befriended some of the world's most fascinating people and, after finishing her book, I'm convinced that she's the most fascinating person of all of them. Can't say much about Nikon's camera since I never owned one. I do however, once owned the Canon XT and now the Canon 40D. Both are Digital SLR cameras (DSLR). The reason I stick with Canon is not only for its quality but also for its interchangeable lens. Lens can be expensive to invest. With Canon, I don't mind investing in their lens knowing that when I upgrade the camera body, the same lens would fit. I have an old EF zoom lens that I purchased in the mid 80's and it still work well with the Canon XT and 40D. As for DSLR a "must have", well, it depends what you're shooting at. If you have kids and/or shoot for sports, you should consider a DSLR. Once you press the shutter button, it's an instant shot. You won't lose that "kodak moment" when your child make that funny face as you would with the slow shutter lag (delay) of a point and shoot digital camera (digicam). DSLR also has continous shooting for sport events or quick actions. The only cons about a DSLR is they're big and bulky which may be an inconvenient for traveling. Then again, once you use it, you seem not to mind dragging it everywhere you go. Also, it doesn't do video clip. Though, I have an inexpensive point-n-shoot to do just that. If you're a serious photographer that want to learn further about photography, then, I strongly recommend purchasing a DSLR. Have fun with your purchase! Natalie

mumby, I was at the library last night and looked up the oversize Mt. Everest book so I could provide you with more detailed information. It's entitled, 'Everest: Mountain Without Mercy' by David Breashears (who is the movie guy in Into Thin Air and was on the Into Thin Air Expedition). It's done by the National Geographic Society and my library has it under the Dewey number: 796.522 AND just for a bit of trivia, Newsweek magazine had a small article a few months ago where they mentioned that there is now a helicopter with a 500hp engine that can go to the top of Mt. Everest when the weather conditions are right. Supposedly, the rotors spin so very quickly that the thin air is no longer the unsurmountable problem is was just a few years ago. But it's still a very dangerous trip and not open for day-trippers or tourists. The whole Mount Everest aura and mystique is fascinating. Keep us posted.
