Does anyone have the new Nikon D90. And if you do what lens. Thanks. I think I am going to buy one.

hehe, Marina even with the "Nikon automatic" having much easier color, your artistic composition and BEAUTIFUL ROSES AND BOUQUETS are top-notch and non-duplicable, lol! You can definitely tell too that mine is the lower Canon Rebel versus the dream Canon D, but at least the Rebel is wayyyyy better than most folks' cameras. The Canon D is the best but again, you really have to know how to shut out the light to get the colors and it takes tripod and the professional steadiness to get the full glory of the Canons or else its only half *ss. Whereas all my non-professional dog agility friends get Nikon Ds instead, and their agility photos have such wonderful color captures. My hands are also too unsteady and my eyesight is poor so I have to take tons of photos to pick out which photo is clear once I download to the big screen of the computer. Because my Fancy Camera is not as good as the Canon D end and lacks the Macro Lens, I will get frustatingly blurred areas if I get too close to the bloom and I have to choose between color accuracy and beauty of shadow and light contrast versus "grain".

Well, thanks guys. I'm sure others could give better advice Roselee. But, as one who has a lot to learn about the camera and photography, I would say that you would not find it difficult to use. It has an automatic setting and several other pre-sets. You would feel comfortable with those until you got more acquainted. It has interchangeable lenses. Buying and using those could present a little challenge, but, nothing the internet couldn't help with. From there, its a question of how much you want to get in to the details. Of course, the "bells and whistles" on DSLR's run the gantlet on price. There isn't really a right or wrong answer there. Just kind a question of personal preference and budget. If I knew more on other cameras, I'd share, but really don't have anything useful to add to those questions.

An SLR is single lens reflex, which ultimately means that what you see in the viewfinder is what will be "photographed". As opposed to cameras that use two lenses, AKA rangefinders "or the little automatic cameras), one is the viewfinder, the other is the lens which can cause a little disparity in what you shoot vs what you are seeing. The D-DSLR is just the digital version of the SLR camera. I have mostly Nikons, the D-40 which is lighter and smaller than the regular DSLRs and the D70, D100 & D200. I also buy last years model, which are perfectly fine and usually on sale. The D60 is the newer, smaller version available and often comes with a two lens package. Best thing you can do is actually do some hands on shopping. You will probably find that ultimately there won't be a whole lot of difference in quality/price between Canon & Nikon and you just have to decide and stick with it. Also you might consider buying an extra battery, an extra card, external flash and neutral density filter to protect the glass on the lens. And don't forget to backup your photos! Use DVD or external hard drive.

I have a Nikon D90 - which is the same as the D5000, but with a few more features. the D90 is more expensive though. The D5000 does not have a focus motor for lenses - so if you buy any lenses - they will need to have a focus motor in them. Those lenses are typically a bit more $$. I bought my D90 with the 18-105 mm lens. This will take pictures up close - and with a decent zoom - without changing lenses. The Tamron 18-270 is available with a Nikon focus motor for about $600 - it will work with the d5000. As far as the "Live View" goes - on either camera - it is not good! It is very slow and my experience has been poor pictures with it. I have used both the Rebel XTI and D90 live view. This goes for any DSLR The viewfinder on the D90 is quiet good - and I can actually make a MUCH better shot using that, compared to a screen on the back. It is not tiny at all. If you have never used a DSLR - it is quite different than the point & shoot, as far as using the viewfinder. I can use it easily with my glasses on also. Make sure you purchase a filter for your lens - no mater what lense you get. Many people new to DSLR don't do this. An inexpensive filter will protect your expensive lens. If you scratch your filter, just put a new one on! :) In comparing the D90/D5000 to the Rebel - it is a pretty even draw. I think the Nikon does a much better job in low light. If you are interested in video - the Nikon's will take great video. A Rebel T1i will also take video. You DO use the live view when you take video.

We are looking for this camera. Where is a good place to find a good price. We also want to make sure that the lens are Nikon and not some other brand. Seems to be a problem if you buy on line.

Hi, I just received mine after searching and scouring after an extensive comparison of brands etc. I decided on the D90 & the best deal I came up with both price and "terms" was from Amazon.com
$1159 for the kit with 18-105Vr and the best part was when I put it in my basket that it said this purchased qualified for 12 month no interest no payment. I read the fine print and decided to call Amazon to make sure. I got the electronics finance dept. and it's legit. You just apply which took all of a minute,,s/s# etc. but not much more info was needed. They answered in less than a minute.
CATCH,,,you much pick the one WHERE Amazon is the SELLER,,,not cameta or some others for this 12 month thing to apply. FINE. I really researched this whole thing, read reviews etc. the site Dpreview.com is so helpful. They have a forum just for Nikon, D90-D40 and answered a lot of questions I had about the camera, where to find, who was reputible seller etc. Also I can recommend a few books that they recommended....Scott Kelby book on Digital photography,,amazon price $13,,Understanding Exposure book by Peterson,, I think (has a pretty sky background with a lighthouse or house on it,,comes up on search with lots of people 5 starring it. This site turned me onto a nikon digitutor that walks you through a lot on this particular camera and is very helpful as it shows a video with talk and shows you so much. I'm new to DSLRs so I need all the help I can get. The D90 has a great auto mode that I can use while I learn. Hope this helps you get the camera you want. I really like mine. Nicole
