Camera repair

My grand daughter dropped my camera on a tile floor. It will only hum now. A local camera store said it has to be sent away and repaired for $180. It cost around $300 - $330 when new so I probably won't get it fixed. Does anyone know of a fix it shop around the Flint, Michigan area? I find it hard to believe that it has to be sent away to be repaired. Thank you, Ruth Ann

Sad, but true. The price for fixing a digital camera, or any motorized-zoom camera can be very expensive.

I guess it depends on if you want to spend $180 now, and have a used camera, or spend twice as much and get a new one.

I'm sure there is someone in your area that would fix it for much less, unless it is broken beyond repair. Hopefully you will find someone.

I had the same thing. Same word about getting it fixed. I bought a new one, but am not as happy with it as the old one.

But, it taught me to be more careful about using the strap on the thing. ;(

If you find anyone local to you that can/will repair it for a decent price, let us know. I might try looking some more.

Oooh, I wish I could see them and smell them. I have some buds on a couple of things and of course the one that just bloomed the tag is missing but I think its adora since I know she was in that line and there was only one without a tag. Grrr. Sorry I just got your email but it looks like its working now. I was so mad that all the ones I overwintered and was waiting to see bloom for the first time are the ones that got the tops cooked so now I have to wait for Y's on a lot of them again. well ... i took a walk out there in the rain ... so no camera ... the leader is extending.. as much as any other terminal bud ... of which, i swear.. every bud on the tree has 3 or 4 tiny cones.... this thing is going to go crazy ... is resinosa used as understock for anything .... ??? now the real test will come.. when the weight above.. either collapses the bamboo ... or it all hardens off and away it goes ... ken

Did Steve ever get back to you? Here's a link to the LCD http://www.partstore.com/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductSKU=1704917&ProductType=PART&ModelID=326182 But its $100 I'm not familiar with the 92 only the 73/72/41. The main layout seems similar and the problem will be your expertise in opening the camera and unclamping the end of the flex without breaking the practically microscopic clamping device (done it!) Also I've repaired cameras by getting parts off eBay and for a camera like the 5 mp Sonys which are very sought after you'll be hard pressed to find a cheap intact LCD. I fixed my DSC-P73 but it took 9 months and ultimately cost ~ $70 for camera and LCD parts camera.

I bought one of those lanyards that go around your neck.

My kids always want to use my camera - and I only let them if they have it around their neck. Heck - I even do that now.

I know it won't fix your camera, but it might help with your new one.

BTW - I have had a couple friends that have had cameras fixed - and they never did work right afterward. I would cut your losses now and just get a different one.
