Oy vey my seasons are terribly off this year! After having a baby I didn't do too much gardening, aside from a ladder I covered with morning glories. I planted some bulbs that didn't do a whole lot but hopefully will next year. Kathi - Thank you so much! The foxgloves seem to do really well here. The original plants are about bloomed out and I don't expect them to return next year. They have reseeded all over though and this spring I think had about 11 babies that bloomed from that original three foxgloves I planted. They are all white though, but I adore foxgloves and welcome any color baby that decides to grow in my garden. :) pippi - So sorry for taking literally MONTHS to respond! I have a now six month old that I pretty much devoted the summer to. Now it's fall and my mind is turning to winter sowing and I'm hoping to find the time to garden more next year. I have a 9 year old who will have to babysit so Mom can get some gardening done. Here it gets a bit too cold to plant seeds in the fall for next spring, but I do summer sow and plant small plants that go dormant and return larger the following year. All of the foxgloves except for one that I have now were sale plants I purchased from Walmart for a couple bucks after they were done. They returned beautifully, though I doubt those original plants will come back next year. They did leave lots of babies and I'm thrilled with that! I agree the yellow yarrow is pretty aggressive, actually ALL of the yarrow I have is pretty hardy and aggressive but managable. I love it and have divided it and put it all around my house and barns. Memo - Thank you so much! I am working on it. The Dames Rocket grows as a weed out here and my Mom sort of laughed at me when I actually PAID for it and put it in my garden!!! LOL* It is gorgeous though and one of my favorite things. I did not return this spring, I'm sad to say! It was outdone by some overzealous daisies and rudbeckia that I will be thinning out next spring. The goosneck while pretty is a real nightmare and I'm planning on pulling out all of that next year too.

OITGAD, maybe I can help you with the insertion of pictures. At least I'll try. First you have to upload your pictures to a host site like photobucket or picturetrail. It's really easy to do and when you get them uploaded, photobucket is the easiest, look at your picture and below it will be 3 lines of text. The middle one is the url. Highlight the URL and right click and copy. Come back to the forum and when you have your message typed just right click and paste the URL into the photo. *This is with Photobucket*. If you choose to use another web host then after you upload your picture you will have to right click on the picture and then click properties, copy the URL and then go back to your message and type [img src=this is where you right click and put your URL] where I have put the [ and ] you will need to change those to and that's it. Hit preview and submit. There is a test forum for pictures that you may want to try it in before you use the regular forum and people there who will help you to tell you what you're doing wrong if you have a problem. HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!!! I wanted to answer you about watering the cuttings... Cuttings love bottom heat. if you can find a place that you can place them on the hot concrete and keep them from rain, then you will have a good start!!! I see you are in a zone 8or 9? CA? This is a great because of the heat you should have already.. You can mist the cuttings every 7-10 days if you think they need some moisture on the cuttings. I see that you have them in a half soil half perlite? I would really keep an eye on not keping them wet or moist. They like to be dry when rooting. If you do see wrinkling, then mist them. cuttings are tricky when you first tart them, but honestly, they can be very easy too! Some of us are worry warts.. I believe a great lady who passed last year..KB was one that like to really fuss over her beloved tree, Some od us had read that we woukd tell he r to quit messing with them..LOL Shw was a wonderful lady!! she did a great job as well... I would try and protect the cutting...even if you just place them under a table in the patio during the summer months..They can tke 6-10 weeks to root. I place mine in the greehouse and placed them on the heat mat inside the black bins with the heatbg mat underneath I soaked the callased ends in b-1 and superthrive nd dipped into roottone and potted them upp. i do go aa lillte deeper than most. i jut like it have some stability in container. i also use rocks and other things tokep the stems from moving around, Bill has showns me of the soft items he cuts and places in his pots.. he cuts then to fit right into the containes and t works great!!! Way to go BILL!! as far as underwatering.. If you are unshure about underwateruing unrooted cuttings, go to Lowes and buy a cheap water meter nd ony water when it says that it is dry... or you could just use a dry swewer bambo stick and if it comes out clean and dry, then water. You will be surprised at the amount of water thr rooted ones will need and want. You will get the feel..dont worry!! Just be careful on the new cuttings.. If you can leave then somewhere that you can forget about them, they will do great..They dont like to be picked and pooked... LOL i always think of Bill when i give this speach!!! But he is sooooooooo right. Leave them be.. they can take 6-8=10 weeks to root. All of he rooted trees looks great!!! Good luck.. Laura

Well, your way you can let them grow on for quite awhile in the pots, most of the other methods require repotting and probably rather quickly after they root or they will not get much nutrients. I'm just guessing, but adding a little peat probably helps. My 33 don't seem to be doing much of anything, but I lost my last ones. The latest have been in 27 days, 26 days, and 21 days now respectively. Some lost all their leaves already, some are still green and on, some are turning yellow, one under a mason jar in the ground is still green (ran out of pop bottles), the rest like that the leaves turned brown and fell off (cooked) but some stems still green. I'm just thinking what to do next if these don't take. The ones that look the best are in cups like Michelle's only buried in the ground, covered with 2 liter pop bottles in 1/2 peat and 1/2 pearlite, recommended by George Mander since most of us can't get what he uses easily anyway. The first two of the latest sets, I mixed up the wrong stuff, but they don't look as if all is lost yet anyway. My first cuttings I tried pure Canadian gold potting soil but didn't cover them, a few started putting out new leaves after longer than 21 days, but then I overwatered them (I think) and the heat did them in. I'm repeating this ad nauseum. The waiting is kind of tedious, each day I look to see if there is any sign of new leaves. Three are in the north window in ziplock bags, one lost all its leaves but stem still green, one lost part of its leaves, top leaves just one yellow spot, and one lost all of its leaves but the top ones which are still green, no sign of new growth or roots on any inside or out and I am not about to tug on any of them.
