 o
It was a good idea...

But, not the best of execution. The little Canon point and shoot and I didn't quite get the vividness of the sunrise in the background.

From cyclamen sunrise

Maybe I'll try it with one of my other cameras the next nice sunrise we get.

Nevertheless...nice and sharp in the foreground and looking good!
To get what you wanted...move away from the flower and focus the back ground first holding shutter button half way down, then move camera over to the flower and take picture.

Thanks Konrad. We'll give that a try the next time.

That might work, but in all likelihood the DOF (depth of field) will be shifted further back and the flower would then be out of focus.

The correct method would be use a lens with a very short focal length and switch to aperture priority then set the aperture at f16 or higher depending upon what lens your using to get maximum DOF

Correct...
I'm pretty sure the foreground will be out of focus with what you have.
You can cheat a little by giving more distance to the flower.

For a little more background, it was a picture of flowers in a window basket outside my kitchen window. I opened the window and shot it from inside, and the flowers were kind "down" from the sill. So, the getting back further idea, while the right solution no doubt, couldn't happen and still get the right angle for the sunrise.

I suppose I could have gotten out my D90 and my wide angle lens and tried lazypup's suggestions... but that would require preparation and planning - not my main strengths as a photog! ;)

It looks beautiful to me...

Thanks 47.

I tried it again a few days later with my wide angle lens. Just never got it to really do what I wanted. I'm sure better photographers could have gotten both the color of the sunrise and the flower, but, in tight quarters, I just never did!
