I have done something similar to what brutuses is recommending. My room is smaller than yours, I think.. but it is long, has a fireplace on one end and a number of doors and windows that interrupt the walls. Similar to your room, the path to the bedrooms (upstairs in my case) is through the living room. So I have the fireplace on one end-- my sofa along the wall that would be equivalent to floating your sofa with its back to the kitchen pass through .. tv in between the sliding door (windows in my case) and the entry to the bedroom foyer (front door in my case). I think it works really well.. if needed, the fireplace seating can supplement the core seating-- and from the sofa, you can enjoy the fireplace and the tv... and you still have pretty decent walking paths through the room. You could probably set up a third little area on the far wall. Stereo and maybe books/reading chair or such. Something small but cozy. I am surprised your prints aren't working on the walls. Do you just need to get used to the color? What color frames? Good luck-- and enjoy your new home.

Thanks, Ed, for those suggestions. The minimum night temp in the middle of winter can be as low as 0 (degrees C), but is usually 5-10. The ave day temp in winter is probably 14-16. In the conservatory, I should expect maybe 5-8 degrees higher than outside temperature, as it faces north although on a grey day that might be less. I see you're from Brisbane. I've been in touch with a nursery in Logan (Logan trees I think) who can freight me some advanced trees for the purpose of giving me a head start, in terms of establishing a rainforest appearance, but I'm looking for a supplier in Melbourne region for some understorey/ ground level specimens as well. The tree I'm considering is Harpullia Pendula. Any other ideas out there? The website looks fantastic - I'll explore in detail in the days ahead (it is quite extensive)

Beth, a row quilt has blocks set into horizontal strips. So, you may have a horizontal row of cloud blocks, then a row of house blocks below it, then a row of flower blocks, etc. In the row-by-row last year quilt shops in the area had a pattern and/or kit available for their row of the quilt. Here in FL there were turtles, fish, suns, etc. And each shop usually had a quilt made up of several of the rows that were available. ETA - Google "Row by Row Experience 2016" and you can find the shops in FL that are participating this year. :) Donna

I actually cannot imagine any problem with having windows of different colors on different facades of the building. As long as your eyes cannot see these two colors at the same time/ from the same angle, what problem does it cause really? Would be helpful if we can find a picture of such a home.
