Great shot! That is so cool.....Seeing just one is a rarity around here--I can't imagine encountering a family!

Good theme, too. Here's one of my favorites:

Love everyone's pics! I saw a blue heron in flight the other day, just for second. But it was a memorable second.

The "potential birds" are great!

I hunted up some more....

I'm new here, I usually hang out on the kitchen and home dec forums, but I really enjoy seeing all the beautiful photos!

We have a huge Osprey nest in our backyard that is dominated by the many Osprey that nest here each Spring and Summer. In the winter, the Eagles love to perch in this old dead tree. They never go into the nest, they nest someplace farther upstream, but they sit here and look for fish.

We also have lots of other cool birds all throughout the year! We have herons, egrets, and during the winter the tundra swans come back, they are so pretty but hard to photograph, at least for me!

Wild Turkeys. When we first moved in my husband woke me up one morning to come look at the 22 wild turkeys marching across our backyard!

My photos aren't nearly as detailed and well framed as many of yours, thanks for letting me share.

Great shots lesmis...I always enjoy an Eagle photo....whats your location?

 o
RE: Theme of the week birds

Thank you Crunchpa, we have way too many pics of eagles, our kids love to tease us about it, but it's just so cool to me to have eagles in our backyard!

I'm located in southern Maryland, along the Chesapeake Bay.

Sorry I didn't respond to the question sooner:

The birds flocking around the fishing boat are frigatebirds, the ones perching over the outhouse are brown pelicans and the pretty little thing in the grass is a mourning dove.

Can I play?? I am new to this forum, although I have been on GW for awhile. In an effort to learn how to take good pictures I came across this forum and have been lurking around looking at all the great pictures.

Well, I can't remember for sure what kind of bird this is, but I believe it is an Egret of some sort. We saw it in Florida last spring. I think she's eagerly watching for the first crack in the egg :>)
