Moon's Filling Up
Comments (7)Thanks Konrad. No, the moon is as seen in the photo. Every few months, the moon is horizontal as in the photo. This usually happens near a lunar eclipse occurring at moonrise or moonset. Go outside and look at the moon tonight. Watch it as it sets, it will be positioned as would a bowl on a table... a full bowl, that is. The moon's setting and rising degrees varies greatly as compared to the sun, which rises and sets farther north until it reaches the Summer Solstice, the point at which the Sun is farthest north of the equator and is on June 21 or 22. The Winter Solstice, usually occurs on December 21 or 22, and is the point where the sun is farthest south of the equator. The moon moves more often north and south. When it sets near the point where the sun sets, it will be as in the photo. Likewise, if it rises near the point where the sun rises, it will also look like a laying down "C". I probably got you more confused than helped you understand why it looks as it does. I know why it does(looks) as it does, but have a hard time conveying why. Maybe Solstice can explain it better... Comments (39)those have been really interesting to see being done..I for sure, would never have thought to put on plates like you did.. where are they going to be hung? bathroom, bedroom, outside?........... if they're weatherproofed, they sure would be cool, out in the yard. I haven't been able to sign any of the work I've done, so far..lol when I did my first portrait, in a seminar,..the instructor wanted me to sign it.. for some reason, I really haven't wanted to, cuz it was a study lesson and not something I started out doing, on my own..so, I put on 3 chicken scratches..lol I love the number 3 and that's all I've put on anything, so far. maybe someday, I'll claim any of my work, 100%..and then I can begin to sign what I make...weird, huh?...See MoreFinal Decisions - Lighting and Countertop - "Spa-Like" or "Dreary"?
Comments (4)Thanks for your thoughts - yes, we're doing the same grey for the shower/bath walls and floor (though a 3" mosaic of the same tile for the shower floor). We do like the deco tile, but it's a bit pricey, so we don't want to go crazy with it. The wood (walnut veneer) is for the vanity - the photo shows some of the different stains we've been playing with, but we're looking at the center stain, which is essentially a natural walnut color. The sidelights actually are a 2"x18" square tube with a 4"square center mount. So they're pretty narrow. But they theoretically throw off 900 lumens each (will have dimmers). Two cans above and behind, along with the Panasonic LED Fan/Light, should be enough. I'm thinking of having the electrician run another wire up on the far end of the room that could be used to power any additional lighting in case we felt it necessary, via a soffit. Also, there is a pretty good sized window over the tub itself, which should bring in some light - although, we're pretty much in the woods facing north on that side of the house, so the light will typically be subtle. But there will be some natural light. I've thought about the idea of going white, but it feels like it might hide things like the sinks, and be too much of a contrast with the rest of the room. Is it too odd to use one color for the vanity top, and a different color for the shower bench surface, beyond the cost of finding a different material? I've been thinking now of trying to use more of the ($) deco tile to highlight some space, such as the right hand side of the vanity, but I don't know.... This is somewhat outside of my normal color palette - I typically go beige/"greige", which we mostly did in the Kitchen a couple of years ago, but DH really wanted to go with a grey for the MB. Fortunately, this grey does have some bits of brown in it, so we can make it work with the wood vanity, but I'm not as confident about what works. I really appreciate any interesting ideas that might liven it up (in a subtle way...) Thanks!...See MoreSuper Frost Moon
Comments (20)We've got a city water 'key'...tool to turn the water off at the street. Helps to have had a BIL who worked for the water department. The last two houses we've had, have had iffy house shut offs at the house. One was obscured by new heat pump duct work and insulation in the basement. This house has one right outside the kitchen that is easy to get to but I don't quite trust it to shut off all the way and DH or my plumber can just go over the hill in back to the street below and turn off the water at the meter. Yes, the moon is beautiful tonight. I had thought fog might cramp our viewing but its clear and shining brightly....See Morekentuck_8b
