opinion on tripods

What are you using? I have two old, heavy ones that have screw on camera mounts. Takes too long to set them up. Takes too long to attach the camera.

Do you have the quick attach camera mounts? Does anyone use a mono pod? Please share your knowledge.

The quick release is a must for me, especially since it makes replacing the battery much faster.

I carry a windowpod which is another must. I can mount it quickly, it stays in my vehicle so I always have it, it is small, and if I don't like my angle, I just drive up a bit.

It's great for fireworks shows and lightning captures, or even when it's cold outside and you don't want to get out in it.

I have a couple of very heavy professional tripods but rarely use them. The tripod I use the most is the little $7 tripod from Walmart. It goes from a few inches up to about five feet, and is also easy to carry with me in the vehicle or on my bike or in a backpack.

It can also be used as a bipod or monopod.

Kt, thanks for the response. I remember seeing one of those window mounts a few years ago. Thanks for reminding me, I need to find one since, like you, I do a lot of driving to get scenic shots.

Tell me about your quick release. I've never had one and don't know what pros and cons to look for. Which one do you use?

In 90 to 100 degree summers, I would stay away from the southwest side of the house, period. In lower temps than that, mine have fried on the southwest side. Your tree does not seem to be providing that much shade and the brick on the house will intensify/radiate the heat. That looks like the front entryway in your picture and just my personal opinion, but, hydrangeas are much better suited for the backyard not just because it is a cooler location (although that's reason enough), but because they are not very attractive in winter (to say the least) and you might not like being greeted with a mound of dead looking sticks as you (and/or your guests) approach the front door. If you're not sure, you can pot it in a nice container and move it around until you find the right spot. ES can be container grown for as long as you like. Good luck....yg

I could be dead wrong but if it were me, I'd probably plant it somewhere else. The red X seems a little too close to the tree. The tree will continue to grow and send out more roots and it will be competing with your hydrangea for water and nutrients. The blue X spot doesnt offer the hydrangea much shade and with the heat that will be baking off the brick of the house, I think it would be too hot.

Honey bees ignore the beans. But we do seem to have a growing number of bumble bees. Also, my crossing has always seemed to be from varieties which have a reputation for "licentiousness:" Long Cut Old Timey Greasy Bean and Goose Bean. But this latest cross was from clear across the garden. Those two weren't even close last year. Now crosses aren't necessarily bad. One can come up with some good stuff this way. Nevertheless, it can be a mess if one is trying to preserve a variety. I know, I naturally tend not to pay much attention to some of the details which change in a cross. I have to make myself stop and pay attention. Over the years I've been gravitating toward reducing some of my varieties, learning to settle down and enjoy my old friends. It's hard, as it is so fun to try new things. But I would be so sad if I didn't have those varieties which are special to our family. I need to protect them. George

I would say it is a sick cat -- maybe has worms or a blockage. In my experience it is not in a cat's nature to poop where it likes to hang out, and incontinence is a clear sign. She is so weak that you have to carry her? or she just doesn't want to go out? I've never noticed that heat caused my cats to lose weight, it causes them to shed! Having the 3rd lid visible at all times is also not normal, if it is so when the cat is awake. They will urinate when upset or annoyed or whatever. My very elderly cat started to do so on my bed where she had slept for a decade, after we had another cat and a dog move in, possibly because she had difficulty negotiating the stairs and other animals in the dark, or because she was just upset at the changes in her environment.

I have two different length with quick release....1 from WM and a taller one-54inch bought from...I think a Ritz store for $20...They're cheapies but work for me...and got a mono but the balancing wasn't good...couldn't hold it still for a good shot...so I don't use that one...
