Uh-oh, this takes me back to flowers. It's unavoidable! Maybe I can find a yellow insect, too.

I fell in love with ceanothus in France last year. Oh, what envy! Such a gorgeous shrub with stunning blue blooms! I decided to try one and planted it in April. Mine is c. thyrsiflorus 'Victoria' and has so far, survived our crazy drought in April, deluge in May; humidity off and on. If it doesn't make it, I'm out $12. I think I can handle that! Thanks-taking photos from the car was necessary because of the ticks-I just brushed the grass with one hand and instantly had a tick on it. I looked at the photos after I posted them and decided that the Blue Grosbeak must be a juvenile male..I thought it was too early, but obviously not; most females only have blue on their backs. But, hey, I've never photographed ANY Blue Grosbeak before

However, "The redheaded ash borer will attack weakened or newly planted living trees and is a pest in young nursery stock in the North Central states. The larvae work in the inner bark and summer wood, cutting off the flow of sap. In young trees, burrows may extend both horizontally and vertically through the trunk, making it subject to breakage during high winds."

It was my Mom's main tree that was really hot today. It's still producing branches and hasn't flowered since I pruned it. I uprooted this one 2 months ago because its lower leaves began yellowing. What I found was that one of the major fat roots was spongy and there was a weird beigish, 'wet-looking' color to it. I gave the roots a trim, gave it a sprinkling of cinnamon, and laid it out bare root (out of the sun) for 10 days. I amended the existing soil 50/50 with perlite, sprinkled a little rooting hormone on the roots before repotting into the lightly moist, yet unwatered soil. That fat root remained spongy with no visible or palpable change and I admit I was a little concerned. I reacclimated it to full sun, left it a month on the dry side, and only began lightly bottom watering it weekly two weeks ago. Last week I fed it lightly. It hasn't dropped another leaf. I uprooted it today to check the roots after it got so hot and am happy to report no more sponginess, no damage. All the roots are even colored, hard, and healthy. There are tons of new tiny healthy roots all over the root system. Can anyone tell me what would have caused that sponginess on only one of the fattest main roots? Could something like this lead to rot if left unchecked? I suspect it may have been soaked a couple of times by overnight rains. Great pictures, Flip flop tile seen is cool! .. Prairie Sun Rudbeckia is perfect!.. love that maple, that tree really stands out! Buddleia 'Sungold Butterfly is lovely!

Thank you so much for the warm welcome. I love taking pictures and I take alot of them. I have a Nikon D60 and I love it. I have it for a year now and I took over 10 thousand pictures.(YEP they are all on my puter) I promise I won't put them all here.. I did happen to find another yellow that I thought was pretty neat.
