New to GW and photography

Greetings...I'd like to share a couple of shots of the wild life where I live. They are not the quality shots I've seen in this forum, but I'm getting better....

Nice photos. I am new here also and while I love taking pictures I know I will never be in the same class as some who post here, but that won't stop me from trying!
Welcome to the Garden Web, check out some of the other forums also, lots of good people hang out here. I visist several other forums on a regular basis, lurked here on this forum for a long time before deciding to jump in!

Hello, my name is Steve and I live in Northwest Louisiana by Lake Bistineau just south of Minden Louisiana. I have 2 huge banana plants that I need to get rid of free. If you live in the area post back here and we will get together and you can come dig them up and take them home. These 2 plants have between 35 and 40 sprouts coming up, grow to between 8 and 10 feet tall. Put out 2 inch bananas and loads of blooms. They are in front of my house and block the view of the lake so they must go. I also have 3 new banana plants, small in front of the house you can have. I bought the house in May of this year and will plant smaller bushes in front that let me see the lake and are less maint. It seems Palms are in this family also. I have round palms. Not sure of the name, type but they have long green skinny stalks that lead to round pinwheel heads that have little white flower/seed pods in the center of them. They grow to 6 or 7 feet tall at my place, They are right in front of the living room windows that look out onto the lake so they must go also. Not sure where to put pix of them but both bananas and palms must go. I also have quite a few flowers that are stalk type flowers, red, yellow, beige that you can dugg up also. All these plants are tall plants. They aren't now, they are bulb and root balls but come dig 'em up there free!

I wish they'd do here what they do on other forums, such as Tripadvisor. You can still pull up old threads and read what's there - you just can't post to them. I believe there's a six month "expiration period" on Tripadvisor threads. Seems the reappearance of the old threads here bother some folks and don't bother others, but if they'd institute something along the lines of what I just described, I think the issue would be alleviated all around. This would also make things a little tougher for spammers, which I'm sure we'd all appreciate.

I will definitely send a message, I for one do not care for how 2/3 of all the "window" questions recently are about window treatments as opposed to the windows themselves. I thought that was what the "home decorating" forum was for. But that may just be me...........

It's so funny how many of you mention the infamous summer screen door slam sound. DH spent some time adjusting to get just the right "slamminess." Robo, yes ... I think it was the only red house anywhere around! Bunny, I was editing the photo to cross out part of the add'y and that accidentally got in there. It was too late to edit out. Our dog's name is Clementine and, like all goldens, she is a vicious watchdog. : ) I took a pic of the rear elevation yesterday. I had the tree in the center pruned back (not removed) as people suggested, removed the lamp post (we added a cobalt blue enamel gooseneck light over the new door; just realized you can't see it in the photo). We squared off and cleaned up the bed, painted the porch . Hopefully in a year or 2 or 3 the new hydrangea will cover more of the porch elevation. (We have trimmed the ivy but are keeping it.)

Yes, but it is still a nice picture, something that isn't often seen, much less captured on film.

Kt...found the deer eating from my feed bunk. When they were done, they ran away jumping and playing. Pretty comical....

Thanks for the welcome lindajewell. I have looked around alot. Just about any topic of interest can be found here. I'm impressed with this site and its members.

You have wonderful wide open spaces for the deer to roam, I don't, yet they come every day to eat my flowers, poop in my yard and pretty much wreck havoc.........but they are beautiful.
I think if you click on Slideshow it might be easier.

Your babies are cute, makes it hard to get real upset with them. Your yard is beautiful. We are working on ours. Its absolutely horrible. Never been much of a flowers and pretty sort, but I'm actually liking this beautification project.
You'll have to clue me in on how to view the album or set up a slide show from here.

Nice pics! What kind of feed do you have out? There must be some corn in it.

These were taken January 1 2008. We were feeding mostly wheat mids with a little corn. By feeding wheat mids, the deer got some nurishment without breaking the bank. We fed around 60 pounds a week. They would have eaten more if it we would have fed it. There were evenings I counted over 30 head coming to feed. I've lived here on this very farm for almost 30 years, and have never seen so many hungry deer. Once spring arrived, they vanished into their seasonal routines.

I have groups here of about 24 at the largest, but mostly a dozen or less.

They don't mess with the molasses or sweet feed or even hay, just anything that has corn in it.
