Blue mushrooms are almost mythical around here, only a few have seen them, and others don't believe they exist.

There were over a dozen in the general vicinity of this one.

Kings (pleurotus eryngii) taste different from the others and is my favorite tasting oyster, it is a lot like eating a wild boletus. However it is more fastidious to grow then the other ones and may not produce unless the conditions are just right. The other oysters are really easy to grow. I have cloned them from supermarket mushrooms with no problems, they also taste pretty good and are one of my favorite mushrooms. Last have you tried Stropharia? They are extremely easy to grow and make a lot of big mushrooms. The taste of Stropharia was a little bit different at first, kind of like potato, but really grew on me after a season.

Pictures would be helpful. I am sure there are people on the forum more expert than myself, but it sounds like some kind of bolete. Generally speaking the ones that bruise blue are not edible. But maybe you knew all of this already. Liz

Did anyone bring rue, Ruta graveolens? That looks like another possibility. If you put on disposable gloves or something else to keep the sap off your hands, you can test it. Crush a few leaves, and if it is rue, you will notice a strong, unpleasant smell. The hand protection is necessary because the sap of rue leaves could cause a rash. Your plant also looks like Corydalis lutea, but for me the seedlings bloom the first year wherever they pop up.

According to these people, chaterells are popping all over central Florida right now. Also there is a set of steps to follow to determine if your find is edible. One of them... WAY into the process!... is to taste and then spit it out. Please be VERY careful and fully educate yourself. There are guided shroom ID hunts available, too.

Yes, an interesting mushroom. The largest one had a diameter of about 6 inches, and when you tear them open, they are truly indigo in color. The pictures I took were blurry, but will try to get some more of the deep blue color.

I searched over several acres, and there were hundreds of other mushrooms and many many different kinds, but these only are growing in a small area.

They are more common in wetlands or where water stands a lot, which, well, this year that describes here.

how whimsical! I just read a novel that had a passage where some boys were eating blue mushrooms. Weird!
