'Prairie Flame' Shining Sumac
Comments (2)Rhus copallina 'Prairie Flame' will perform as required in the situation described. It will take time to "fill in" if density is a requirement, but it is not so vigorous a plant as will defy mowing. It is not so vigorous as to prevent other things from growing with it either - so, if you want a "pure stand" you might have to do some weeding or discouragement of other plants volunteering amongst it as it get established. I am quite happy with my stand of 'Prarie Flame', which I have been growing for almost 10 years on extremely poor quality B/C horizon droughty clay soils....See MoreISO sconces that shine both up and down
Comments (10)Thank you all SO MUCH for posting all these great lamps! I love them all! I can see I have some research to do. And now I have several places to look. :) I'll talk to DH about putting track lighting along the beam. I know he's often said he wants to put track lighting in our living room area, but there are "issues." Adding lighting is an ongoing problem with this house. The exterior walls are log and can't be "opened up" to add fixtures or outlets, so we have to work with what's already here. Same thing with the interior walls--they're all wood paneling, making it difficult to repair the wall if we want to move a light fixture. (We can't just add a patch of drywall and paint over it.) The ceilings are also wood (the ceilings are actually the floor of the second story of the house). So if we put track lighting or anything else with a wire on the ceiling, we have to cover the wire with a strip of wood trim. I'll post photos when we get the new sconces. Thanks again!...See MoreAucuba "Mr. Goldstrike" leaves burning when sun shines on then! help!
Comments (1)i would wonder about a frost or a freeze.. within the last week ... and.. as usual.. a pic would help ... the sun is still pretty low on the horizon.. being just weeks from the start of spring... i like to think of sun burn ... as more of a mid to late summer thing.. when the plant cant pump enough water.. for the heat .. and the leaves start to look sunburned .. scorched ... [and of course.. i mean in MI ... the further south you go... the earlier it can happen ...] and finally ... as with all BBS purchases... its hard to define.. what the heck happened to it prior to you buying it.. or how far south it was shipped from ... e.g. if it was shipped from FL.. and you left it out in 35 degree weather.. you should see where i am going with it.. see above ... this would be lack of a proper hardening off ... also ..... if you happen to go back.. or call them.. they might say something like.. yes.. we have have many complaints about that stock .. and then you know.. it wasnt you .... ken...See MoreSultry Sunday's Shining Stars of the Garden
Comments (13)Kay - Colorado Moon Fire is a little workhorse. It always jkeeps putting up more scapes here too, usually blooming to the end of July or early August. Mantis - Lord of the Storm's real name is Lord of the Wind. I think I was out in sun for too many hours today. :) The windswept look is the reason I bought it. That cultivar always has a lot of movement....See Morejuanital
