I've taken a few night shots too with old camera and look forward to trying it with this one. The macro with this camera is 150 cm (W) (0.4 in.Â1.6 ft. (W)). I was right down on the flowers. There is a lot to read in these manuals, I just plod along and practice. It's a learning experience and a fun one at that. treefrog ~ I've also tried to capture the color of the blue sage with old camera and never could. There are a couple of roses I had the same trouble with, so I hope they come out truer with this new camera as the blue sage did. Evelyn ~ You are so right about picture taking being addicting, almost as addicting as some flowers are. : -) Ambersky ~ I looked up what you thought the purple unknown might be and I'm not sure. Someone else told me something else and that didn't quite look right either. I'll try to get out tomorrow to take a picture of leaves and flowers so you all can see the whole thing. I think of you everytime I'm around the two roses you gave me, Smith's Parrish, and I think the name of the other one is Old Blush, which is in the main garden and doing terrific. Don - I looked at every reference I could fine on Nightlife, and went back over to her house and took a close look at BHN15, and I believe you'v nailed it for me. If with that much scrutiny I couldn't say it isn't, I could say it is. It's Mommy and Daddy don't care what I call their kid. And the plant is not likely to be used for breeding thoroughbreds. Thanks much. Amazingly we've gotten the two of the four I expected would be the hardest, the solid green ones. Very quickly too, I might add. I still need the two variegated ones and felt they would be picked up quickly. The one I feel is a mini, but the few responses all from highly experienced collectors all feel is a Tiara, has me going. I looked at a lot of Tiara photo I could find and my own Golden Tiara. None has the really tight mounding of BHN32 and all give larger numbers regarding plant and leaf size. I've downloaded two lists from myhosta.com of all hosts with Tiara in its name and with Mouse in its name,and I am going to do spreadsheets of each to compare with BHN32. It may not be productive, but I expect to learn something I don't know. And when I am done it might in fact be Diamond Tiara as Steve said. So I mean no disrespect to anyone. BHN34 is so beautifull. I expected a whole bunch of experienced hostaholics to jump in and say "that's xxxxxxxx". And it hasn't happened. So I might run another thread with three new ones and BHN34 and see what happens. If I get to the coast, I have a really hard time leaving paradise and making day trips to see other places, so I'd probably never make it to Astoria, except it's on my way DOWN to paradise...but if you get bored, or the weather isn't great, maybe you'll venture out. I ate at a nice restaurant in Astoria recently and while searching for the name to post here, (it's Bridgewater Bistro - good food, nice place!) I came upon this recommendation as one of the 10 best restaurants outside of Portland. I'd definitely try it on my next visit. Albatross Albatross (address and info) Astoria Helmed by the dude behind Thistle in McMinnville, and ex-PDX Chef Eric Bechard, this cooly laid-back, brick-walled eatery is heavy on the reclaimed touches (an ancient cash register, a retro stereo, etc.), and on farm-to-table eats like boldly flavored clams, and one of Oregon's best burgers w/ caramelized onions & a smooth white cheese sauce on a pillow-soft bun.
