photo shop ?

We are traveling so my pictures are many. I have Picasa but I am thinking of trying Photoshop. I haven't checked it out much but have seen some photos that have been altered a little by it. Such as an unwanted shadow , ect.

Is this still the best or are their newer ones on the market.

What do you use and how do you use it. Likes and dislikes. Hard to learn, etc.

I know there are places on the Internet that you can show your photos but can't people take your photos from these?

I have a lot to learn.

You might think about getting Photoshop Elements. It's much less expensive than the full version, but has loads of features--more features than I learned, even though I'm now using CS3.

Amazon has lots of good books on learning Photoshop--both Elements and the full-featured versions. I've bought a couple used for not much money.

Yes, people can take your photos from the Internet. That's why it's a good idea not to post full-size, high resolution files. Some people add their name or logo.

On Flickr, (flickr.com) you can choose which photos you want to be public and which you want to be private. You can make everything private if you like. I use it for backup storage along with an external hard drive. Hope this helps.

I made a mistake. Windows downloaded all the photos and deleted them in the time it took photoshop express to think about the matter and decided that it did not want to download them. I just took more photos and found the lost ones were in a folder. The problem is windows vista is competing with photoshop to be the downloader, and there is no way to make one of them dominate. But, I did not lose them after all. I feel so stupid. I am sorry to bother everyone.

I normally lurk once in a great while but thought I'd chime in here. I agree with the others. I like the craftsman style door the best with your house and also think your door hardware and light fixtures are too ornante for craftsman style. We just got the occupancy permit on our house which is also craftsman-inspired. We used a fiberglass craftsman style door from ThermaTru (model CCA230). We plan to use the gel stain on it (once the weather is nicer) so that it looks like wood but it can be painted, too. The door is available without the dentil shelf or with one of two dentil options. You can also get different kinds of glass to go in the 3 windows or keep the plain. The door is my second favorite part of our house and I highly recommend it. It would look great with your house. You can Google the model number and manufacture to find pictures of it. For the lights, we used a very simple jelly jar light by the door and double bullet-style lights for the sitting area of the porch, both with a black finish. I would have loved to use more square craftsman style lights for those areas but we were on a tight budget and figured they'd be easy to change later if we wanted. For the door hardware, we went with a simple lever style with a rectangle backplate and a separate deadbolt, all in a matte black finish.

Go to a good lampshade store if you have one in your area. This isn’t something you can get just anywhere. They may be able to order what you need . I needed a couple custom made shades so that is also an option but be prepare to pay $$$!

I once replaced my brother's stepdaughter's photo with a photo of my brother in law in a family portrait for my mother. My BIL had taken most of the photos and was in only one, and I had to take him from that photo to put him in the other photo. However, if anyone looked closely enough, they would have noticed that he had two left feet, as I did not have a photo of his right foot. Here's a photo of my brother and me at a low water crossing at Sycamore Canyon: I took the photo of him, and then he took the photo of me, and I combined them. This would have come out better if we had taken the photos from the exact same place, but my brother did not stand exactly where I told him to. Anyway, if you still need it, I could probably help you. I do not have a full version of Photoshop on my laptop (which is what I am using here in Cathedral City), but I do have it in L.A. However, I will not be there until after Jan 8.

Defintely go with Photoshop elements unless you are a graphic arts professional who needs LAB and CMYK tools. If you don't know what those are, you don't need them.

Thanks for the info. I checked out Free GIMP. From what I have seen it looks easy to use. Does anyone use it, any problems? I'm going to check out Flickr.com now. I'm not very computer savy so that will limit me.
I'm going to look at Photoshop Elements too. Is it better to go Free or just buy my own. I don't think I want to store my photos on line (where on this planet do they go) so I just back up with a disk or flash drive? I ask lots of silly questions I know.
Any advice is welcomed

GIMP is excellent software and it's free. It lacks the database component that you get with Elements (so does Photoshop proper for that matter) but as an editor GIMP is actually superior to Elements.
