Of course ! I myself was somewhat stubborn (not wanting to move from my FF6 version). But recently I upgraded to 8, since I didn't want to go to 9 yet (too many problems reported). Henry, A couple of thoughts come to mind. Remember that this thing is heavy enough to wreak significant harm if it's underbuilt. I understand that snow load may not be much of an issue, but make sure you're thinking about how winds will impact this thing too. If it were me, I'd be looking at beam span tables for normal #40 loads. That'd probably be more appropriate of a comparison than what I was going for. I'm guessing that it'll push you into a 14" or 16" LVL scenario for that span. Doubled up 2x12"s might get you there, but I'd seriously think about moving in the posts a couple feet and cantilevering the beams. It'd probably hold it up, but I think it'll visually deflect and look funky. Second thought is that there isn't any angle bracing on your short axis. That is critical to making this thing free standing. Definitely don't rely on the footers to keep this thing from racking horizontally.

Well if you really want to know and are a bit obsessive, you take a few big sheets of white paper and a yardstick and draw out the various sizes. Tape them up to the wall and see which one you like best. Worked for me.

At 8' by 8', the frame becomes less of a visibility issue give the expansiveness of the glass. At that size, most manufacturers are going to know where their windows/doors can live comfortably. I am not sure that you will find something with that minimalist frame that also meets the minimalist cost range. Here is an 8' by 8' sliding glass door in an Okna 8800 series slider frame. This SGD has what is considered a "French" rail on it so it runs on the thicker side of those that are out there.

She played a waitress, serving Hugh Jackman a drink in a bar, [she had to learn a little Japanese] and exchanged a few words, I never went to see the movie, apparently in the north American version my daughter is not in,....[they took another girl of more Japanese looks] she plays is in the European version.
