Doris, That's a common mistake around here. People say I live in a banana belt. Wrong, our Island is in a rain shadow. Not any wormer then Seattle, just dryer. Back to the plant: It's a small fruit, reddish, size of a table grape. The plant is a nitrogen fixer Eric

Something in my gut told me "Mr. Horticulture" (Kt) would guess correctly. You're GOOD, Kt! So the Neil Diamond song is "Cherry Cherry"? Julie
|

Winner!!! Kt, I was wondering when you were going to chime in. The Elaeagnus multiflora I have is called Sweet Goumi. It has more and better tasting fruit. Julie, your Autumn olive is a Elaeagnus umbellata.

Yes, other common names are "Gumi" and "Cherry Elaeagnus." I want one. It should grow for me down here. Kt

Eric, Now that song I don't remember, at least not from the words. Maybe if I heard the melody I'd recognize it. My Autumn Olive came with the property we bought. I didn't know what it was for a few years. Just happened to find it browsing the internet. The flowers are incredibly sweet scented. I understand the plant can be invasive in our area, but I'm not worried because there is only one in a large meadow that we keep mowed. That was fun, even though I didn't win. Julie
