Thanks all! Look forward to seeing your pictures soon too, pj. Kathy, hope you have time to go home on Hwy 290 and see the beautiful Bluebonnets in Chappell Hill. Just stunning. We won't leave reseeding to chance yet because the seeds can remain dormant for years. We scuffed them with bricks, soaked overnight and then planted them back in October right before we had three days of rain in a week. As soon as the sun came out, the sprouts were up and we've been waiting since then. We'll do that the next few years. The field in the slide show is the last of the undeveloped commercial land in our neighborhood so it will probably be gone soon. I'm so glad we got good pictures when we had the chance. I've also collected seeds from many of the flowers back there to bring into the yard. To do anything else with that spot would require hauling several truckloads of dirt around the house by wheelbarrow only to see it wash into the creek when it rains, so wildflower meadow is the logical choice.

They start blooming usually around spring break, which started last week. We drove home last Saturday, and they were just starting to bloom. I bet this weeks drive will be beautiful. I did notice something strange. In some areas the fields had bluebonnets growing low, then tall white flowers also covered the fields. It looked like fields of white from a distance. Barbra

I didn't get a picture but drove by the Azle High School today and saw the bluebonnets today. They were so blue and beautiful! Bootscootengal, doesn't it look as it it were planted with a seed mat? I think that embankment had some recent regrading. Thank you so much for telling me where they were. It rained for almost my whole spring vacation and we never went anywhere except over to play with the grand babies. I had one semi dry day that I used to get the last of the fall leaves out of the cactus garden. That really needed to be done. I found a $5 bill buried in the mulch :-) Our lake is looking a bit better with the rain. We saw geese there for the first time in a really long time.

Yesterday, we took a drive in the Bellville, Sealy area and I found several beautiful types of wildflowers in bloom. Three of them were particularly interesting to me. The first one has narrow, widely spaced leaves and delicate lavender blooms,the second has pretty yellow flowers presented in sprays, and the third had larger, yellow flowers on an upright stem, with large leaves.
