Hi Doreen, Thanks for the reply. I think I saw your post offering Great White a week or so ago and sent you a message but I didnt hear back. It seems that the email service through gardenweb was not working correctly for lots of users at that time so its very possible that you didn't recieve it. I do have TONS of flowers for trade. A huge selection of marigolds, zinnias, morning glory, alyssum, sunflowers, coneflowers, rudbeckia, scabiosa, sweet peas, shasta daisies, lupine, etc. Doo much to list in a post. I'm currently going through and cataloguing everything at the moment. I'd love to see your list and I'm happy to send you mine as well to see if we have multiple seeds to swap. Thanks again for the reply and I'm looking forward to hopefully setting up a swap !

Kokos: the rootstock and the Liberty both came from Cummins Nursery, I had to order the Liberty about a year +- in advance so they could graft it. As far as spacing, I can only say that it is depends on the rootstock, scion, soil and how you train the tree. I have 9 different young trees on semidwarf rootstocks on 18' centers and trained to central leaders. If I did it all again I'd use 20-24' spacing or do a better job of training in the first 3 years. The trees can still and will be trained to fit their spaces better, they aren't out of room by any means but they definitely will not be allowed to get crowded as it makes all the cultural practices more difficult and certainly doesn't help in disease control. According to the tag on the 6 Mrs. G. G. Gerbing Azaleas I purchased from my local nursery, they can reach a height anywhere from no less than 3' with a maximum of 8' tall, they may spread out anywhere from 4' to 6' in width. So they would make a nice "privacy hedge" that would bloom in the spring. I'm in Florida, which I think is Zone 8-9, but I can't ever remember my actual zone. They say these only bloom in the Spring, but the ones I have must not know that, as they have also bloomed profusely in both the beginning of the Spring season and then again in early Fall. I just wish there were a variety like this that could be made to bloom all year round, especially in my area.

Some info out there on this but not much in depth. Most successful grafts onto other garcinias have not had great results. Bryan Brunner has/had several and in all cases the mangosteen trunk completely outgrew the rootstock. All trees were laying on the ground because the rootstock could not support the top growth. Very stunted also. Bernie Dizon in the Philippines only grafts mangosteen onto mangosteen rootstocks. He also does multiple rootstocks with these plants swearing that the grow faster and fruit sooner. He also states that the success and growth rate is better with mangosteen on mangotsteen. There were lots of grafted mangosteens in PR. Many were the same age as nearby seedling grown trees but the grafted plants were a quarter of their size. They showed little sign of getting much bigger...maybe waist high. I believe the multiple rootstocking is definitely a benefit. Probably more so than normal grafting. The plant would benefit by more roots and stronger root system. I've done this once. One was successful but it took an incredibly long time to take. Even though it did take, the nurse graft later died off. It was much more vigorous than the main tree. A much smarter man than I explained gave a very credible explanation to me for this. In a nutshell, even though the graft seemed to take, there was no guarantee that the there would ever be any true, physiological union between the two. If you have a very healthy and vigorous plant and you have the same in some seedlings, then it is worth a shot. I'd try one at a time to not overly stress the main plant. If it works, it will be worth the wait. Go read up on Dizon's website. It's pretty cool. If you have plenty of material, then by all means try grafting onto other garcinias. But, IMHO, I wouldn't waste the time or material doing this.
