I am new to the forum (and gardening on my own, for that matter!) and have been doing a lot of reading here! Does anyone know where i can purchase wisteria in CNY or online? I'm not even sure which variety i should choose, but here's my situation...my grandmother has always fancied wisteria. She has one in her garden at home but it has never bloomed. Our family owns some secluded land with a cabin on it that she used to garden regularly, 15 years ago it looked like a well manicured state park. Now, i am 25 and my grandma is 75. To her great pleasure, i have always taken interest in learning from her and continuing everything she has done on our family's land now that she cannot (she has RA and is not nearly as mobile most days). Recently while the two of us were discussing my engagement and eventual wedding (which will take place on our land that we call "the hill"), she told me how beautiful it would be if we were married under the arbor up there if it were covered in wisteria. I would love to make this a reality for her, since she is not in good health these days and she is very dear to my heart. However, all these stories about wisteria never blooming has really dampened my spirits, and furthermore, i can't even find a place to buy it! Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated. Additional Info: -space is not an issue up there/nor will be lack of attention -i can winterize the vine if needed -looking for cutting from old, reliable flowering plant -cost not an issue -the 'arbor' in question is extremely sturdy (more like a small pergola, if you ask me) so that shouldn't be an issue, either. -we have not 'set a date' for the wedding yet, but are tentatively planning on late spring 2012, so early (**crosses fingers**) dare i ask for-prolific blooming is most important! I WILL delay my wedding for those flowers!!! Haha

Beautiful photos arctictropical!! I currently have my one year old wisteria planted on the south side of my husband's garage- it is in full sun at the base and will have some shading from the overhang for the vines once they get going. My questions is: where is the most suitable spot to plant these? - In regards to optimum growth. This winter, I thought it had died, but sure enough it popped out about a month ago and is seemingly growing well but still very small. ( no mulching or protection ) Any imput would be appreciated as I'm from Vancouver and would LOVE to have this in my garden. I live in NW Calgary now. Not much happening in this stretch of the woods either. Just got back from visiting the out-laws in Le Canto Florida yesterday. I really wanted to do something a bit more exciting, but since DW's dad is 80 and mom a few years younger I thought we should spend a few days with them. It's really hard being self employed with people counting on me to take any time off. Last year we did the same thing. Just sitting on their lanai reading and sipping a brewski and having somebody else make food for me is a real treat. It's not like palm-tree Florida. More like horse country..and it looks an awful lot like Michigan....pine trees instead of palm trees. There are some palm trees but it's a real kind of 'old florida' which I actually find endearing. A lot of old mobile homes and a laided back lifestyle for sure. Just chilling with a few dogs this weekend and a getting back into the normal routine. Now is the time I start looking at seed catalogues and planning the summer garden. Won't be long before I start some early crops. Sure wish I had more property to really go gung-ho (Hi Annie!). I want to try potatoes this year and may have to go the container route. Funny thing is last year I sprinkled some carrot seeds in a container and had more than we could eat all year long! So may try to do more container gardening....bush beans, peas, cukes etc. Maybe I will hit the lottery and be able to buy that farm. Not counting on it though. Anyway, I think I am really rambling and OT for the TGIF thread. Glad to be home even though it's colder than a witches $(#!!!!!! Happy weekend all! Duane
