Help please - services to convert old 8mm movies to VHS

Hi, I unearthed some old family movies and slides, so I'll be asking a couple of questions about them. I'll divide them up by topic.

Does anyone know of a good service to convert 8mm movies to VHS, and then possibly to DVD? I can't find anyone locally who doesn't ship them out to a service, so I may as well send them out myself. The movies are from 1956 - 1960 - movies my parents took of my sisters and me.

My criteria are:

1. They don't lose the 8mm movies

2. They do a good job

3. Their price is a good value for the service that they provide.

Also, I'm trying to figure out about how many feet of film I have. They are the 8mm Kodak movie films, the 3 inch in diameter reels, and the reel is pretty full.

I also need to figure out how much it would cost to convert the movies from VHS to DVD. I have a quote per hour of DVD, but I don't know around how much time one of these reels would run.

I'm also googling to find out some of my answers, but there is so much information out there, it's hard for me to find my answers. If there are other photography forums or sites that you can suggest I look it, I would appreciate it.

If anyone has any other tips or advice, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks very much.

Lynne
