Has anyone had to deal with Dentigerous cysts with their pet? I am wondering about the cost of treatment. We have an appt later this week, but I want to steel myself for the possible cost.
Probably there will be the obligatory exam, radiographic charges, anesthesia, the cost of an extraction (or two... how many cysts do you think your pet has?). These can be both painful and destructive and should be taken care of. Many veterinarians may not feel comfortable taking care of these.. might have to see a dental specialist.
Agree with lzrddr. Bottom line is it won't be cheap so prepare yourself. You did not mention the age of your pet. Our Cdn. vet would want a full blood panel (and so would I). The cost of a senior blood panel in Toronto for all dogs 7 and over is almost double that of a dog younger than 7 (regardless of breed). Seven is not old for our breed of dog, but it is what it is. We have to pay Cdn. $1,250 for a dental cleaning - a bit of gingivitis - no extractions. So with a cyst it would cost a lot more. But not having it done could easily result in a lot of other health issues down the road. And it might be a lot cheaper in the U.S. - I know that dental cleanings with blood panels certainly are. So you might not be in for as major a hit. But prepare yourself.....
