frontline plus is what you want for fleas AND ticks. i think one of the differences in buying online compared to getting it your vet's office is that if it doesn't work as it should, and you bought it online, the company won't stand behind it. if you buy it from your vet's office and it doesn't work as advertised, you'll have better luck getting something out of the manufacturer.

this is especially true with heartworm preventatives.

There is a generic version of both Frontline and Frontline Plus, aka Fiproguard and Fiproguard Plus. The "plus" is an added ingredient that is a breeding inhibitor for fleas, however fipronil (primary ingredient in all these medications) will kill both fleas and ticks. Personally I have good luck with just plain fipronil (Fiproguard) without the added ingredient for my two dogs, but flea populations here are not too bad. A lot depends on where you live. Fipronil takes 24 hours to kill ticks, but that is soon enough to prevent them from transmitting Lyme disease. The ticks just pull off or fall off.

The generic is cheaper, and online is cheaper, but any of these meds are equally effective, regardless of where you buy them, providing they have a valid expiration date. The hype about guarantees and efficacy was profit motivated propaganda by the makers of Frontline before the drug went off patent.

I just ordered Frontline from PetcareRX.com. I don't think they would sell something that wasn't the real deal, that would be a lawsuit waiting to happen!
