| Here is a poem that I discovered for a friend who was devastated that he would have to put his best friend down. He was inconsolable that he wasn't doing the right thing even though Bear was in the final painful stages of bone cancer. He could only remember the good days when he looked at his dear friend, and not the creature who now lived in tortuous pain. This poem helped him make the decision because he knew it was out of love that he would take Bear on his final vet trip.
If it should be that I grow weak
You will be sad, I understand.
We've had so many happy years.
Take me where my need they'll tend,
I know in time that you will see
Please do not grieve -- it must be you

| What a beautiful poem. Of course the tears have come. I had to put my dog to sleep 5 years ago. A really heart wrenching decision, but it had to be done. He was ill and old and in pain.Wish i could have had this poem to keep. Thanks for posting it. |

| Came across this poem last evening after Ruby (My beloved Teddy Head)pictured had another breathing episode putting greater strain on her already weakened heart. Dear Ruby, we did all we could, medication wasn't helping, we loved you too much. Rest peacefully under the rainbow in Doggy Heaven my faithful baby. We will miss you so much. Mam, Dad, Toni, Tadgh, Shadow and Sparky xxx Thank you to whoever originally posted this. |
