APRI is a registry that doesn't concern itself with ethics at all. They promote selling dogs through pet stores, wholesale distributors, and brokers. They allow dogs with limited AKC registration- those who the breeder deemed too poor conformation or health to breed- to be fully registered and to have fully registered litters. This promotes sub-standard breeding of dogs. Neither APRI nor AKC gives a crap about the health of the animals otherwise congenital defects and diseases would make the animal ineligible for breeding. Neither registry requires any health screening for breeding animals, so hereditary problems are left to breeders to eliminate.

I would never buy a dog period, so their registration doesn't matter to me. Millions of healthy purebred (and not purebred) dogs are killed in shelters every year, and buying a dog means another shelter dog dies. If I wanted to breed perfectly healthy dogs of excellent conformation for show or sport, I'd buy the best dog I could afford without concern for their registry. But for a family dog, I don't need them to be registered and I certainly don't need them to be bred for me. Plenty are waiting to be adopted.
