OT slightly...bird feeders--is it safe to drill a tree?

Hi, I know this is a "pets" place, but this is the closest I could find for information. I have trees in my yard but the branches are all too high (30+ feet) to hang a feeder from. I currently have a pole feeder in the yard, but it's not anchored well and wobbles from side to side, plus it's only 5' high, so my feeder is hanging only about 2 1/2 feet off the ground. Getting a taller, stronger one is not an option, my DH is not a bird watcher so he would see it as a waste of money. I was wondering if I could attach a plant hanger from the trunk of a tree (drilling 2 holes) to hang a feeder. I know it's not the best solution, but will 2 small holes really hurt the tree? If anyone has any other ideas, I'm open!

Thanks!
