The dog is just being a dog. She isn't going to be able to do anything about a young active dog and she shouldn't have to keep it quiet when it is just getting indoor exercise. Barking is something else, however. She should not allow that unless there is a reason for the barking.

You probably knew dogs were allowed when you rented the apartment, didn't you? I don't want to offend you and understand how annoying it is to listen to, but you will get used to it eventually I would hope.

You have a person problem. It just happens to be a person whose dog does not behave.

There is not a lot you can do, save explain the problem to the dog owner. If that does not do any good, talk to the landlord.

If one of those two options work, great. If not, you have to learn to live with the problem or escalate the complaining---or move.

Every normal dog is trainable, no matter what the age. Apartment courtesy should mean she silences the barking. If the dog is not exercised and kept occupied, all kinds of bad habits emerge.

There is a great deal more to taking care of a pet besides feeding and sheltering.
