Comments (22)On the topic, you know what I hate the most?? Is people who encourage my dogs bad behaviour. If my dog is jumping and I tell her no and stay down don't go "No, its okay!!" and make her keep jumping. Don't come in my house and undermine my authority and encourage things my dogs aren't allowed to do, just because you don't mind if they do it. Don't feed my dog if he's staring at you while you eat. Infact, don't feed my dog at all, period, without asking. Some people food we don't mind, if it's healthy. And we will ONLY give it once we're all done eating and the dog has forgotten that he even wanted it in the first place. I don't go up to peoples kids and shove ice cream down their throats while they're throwing a tantrum cause they want ice cream, so dont throw pizza crusts at my dog because he's giving you a pathetic "I haven't eaten in months" look. Generally our dogs know not to stare or even bother us when we're eating. Occasionally if its something really yummy or they're just being a little forgetful all it takes is a stare, or a "Don't mooch" and they'll go lay down with their head facing away from us. Little girl will even go to bed sometimes so she's not even in the room. People who come in our house know this, but don't seem to care. I also hate people who THINK they know what they're doing when a dog misbehaves, and then they do the exact opposite of what should be done, or just plain don't know at all. Unless you've succesfully trained a dog with whatever you're trying to make mine do or not do, don't try to do anything to my dog that they can't already do. Watching at the end of my leash and the dog whisperer do not give you trainer status and I would really like if my dogs did things my way, and the way we're succesful with. I don't need people coming in trying to teach new commands for old tricks, or taking over alpha status to my dogs. It's a different story if you'e dog sitting, of course. Just like when I babysit. I want kids in my house to have manners and not scream at me from across the house. So I'll teach them that when they're with me. But if the parents are around, I don't take over and make them say please and thank you if the parents don't. Cause it's not my place....See MoreDog owners - Where to put dog food???
Comments (41)Judydel- YES, you should be worried if he/she is allowed to have any split ball - especially when not in your immediate sight! My dad's most beloved canine split open a tennis ball one time and swallowed half of it. He was excited to see my dad packing for hunting, we guess, because he'd never done anything like it before. Anyway, my dad left with the dogs for hunting and Ben (the dog) had a bowel obstruction from the 1/2 ball. The country vet that operated on him wasn't able to save him. As a child, it was the first time I had ever seen my dad really cry when he carried Ben out of the back of the truck at home. Dogs really shouldn't be allowed to have tennis balls, or any other type of hollow or foam ball when not actively playing/fetching with a human. They can choke on them, get ill from ingesting or die from an obstruction. Off my soapbox now.......See MoreIrresponsible dog owners (long)
Comments (27)I'm sorry you're dealing with this and feel sorry for the dog, too. I would definitely keep calling animal control as needed. I am also dealing with a neighbor dog. It's a very sweet older golden retriever, but has always been allowed to roam out their back door when it potties or needs fresh air. (We just moved in here 7 months ago.) We are on a wooded cul de sac, and the dog doesn't go far from home, but it does come in our yard on occasion and I have picked up its poop a few times. The other day I was sitting on our front porch with my senior cat on my lap. (Kitty is only ever outside with me and doesn't leave our porch.) Neighbor dog comes up on to the porch - he had come through the back service door of our garage so I didn't see him approach. Dog started barking when he saw the cat, and chased the cat through the garage and up a tree. Poor kitty just had surgery last week on its side for tumor removal. The last thing he needed was to be chased and treed. It's been a few days since this happened and he is still really jumpy. People need to keep a handle on their pets, and if they can't or won't do that, they shouldn't have them. My cat should be able to sit on our own porch with me, but I guess those days are over, because I can't trust that the dog won't come onto our porch again....See Morecindy_lou_who
