Idiot dog owners
Comments (51)Ug! Yes dog owners can be so very bad!! We were coming home from a camping trip with 2 little kids, spouse and I, and our dog. I had the dog (80 lb mutt) watching the 4 year old on the playground when he had to go potty (kid not dog). So we three walk toward the parking lot where I can give one of them to the spouse who is at a picnic table with the 7 year old. A car pulls up and three dogs bound out and start peeing all over. Two yorkies and a dane, all unaltered males. They come running at me and my kid and dog. I asked the owner to please keep her dogs off my kid and leash them (signs all over of course). She actually waved her leashes and said she had leashes. I try to shoo off the dogs and this idiot owner tells me to be submissive and relax and chill out. So I might have yelled and told her to get her dogs off my kid and use a leash...etc.etc.etc. She used many expletives in front of my children's delicate ears insisting that her dogs wouldn't hurt anyone and we were bad for being unhappy at her lack of leashing and then told us we were terrible for having an F-ing "pet bull" when we had children. Why the heck would you allow your yorkies to approach an effing "pet" bull on a leash if they're so bad anyway? So your dogs are friendly. Well my %&*%# ^%$(* pet bull might not be and that's why he's on a leash! (Actually my so-called pit bull is a dog lover and would have been delighted to meet those dogs. But not with my little kid in the mix thank you very much!) So, pepper spray? We had a lot of run-ins with unleashed dogs on this trip and I don't want to be mean to them but I do get protective around my kids. I guess I might have "accidentally" used it on that woman if I'd had it though....See MoreOT: For boxerpups or other dog owners....
Comments (51)I have two dogs and generally they eat within 3 feet of each other, sometimes sharing, sometimes not. Each has their own bowl and their own place...at least to start. After a little bit, they usually end up checking out each others bowl. The female came to us with mild food aggression, but we trained her to wait for her food for her food and stood between her and my other dog while they ate. Food is no issue now, except when the cat is eating...it is fun to make the dogs sit and see the yearning in their eyes while she takes her time. When she leaves the bowl it is a dash to see what gift she may have left. Here are my pups, Chewie and Savvy: and the cat (we call her Angel-Devil) p.s. as far as the feeding station on the island, I look at it (it's really pretty) and wonder how messy it would look after about a week in my house. My dogs are actually pretty neat eaters, but around the water bowl is messy--they drip alot!...See MoreMemo to dog owners who use take-out coffee
Comments (39)vala55, I second what chi83 suggested--Ever Clean is the best litter at eliminating odors (that I've used for our cats). We use the ES (extra strength) since it is made for multi-cat households (have/have had 2 cats). Other litters we'd tried; Pet Gold (sold at Petco), Tidy Cat (w/ w/out crystals), and prob a few others, just did not do a good job at eliminating odors. We NEVER smell cat pee with the Ever Clean. If one of the cats has just pooped, you will prob smell that (if you walk into the room with the litter box, not throughout the house), but the Ever Clean usually eliminates that smell fairly quickly. We scoop twice a day (though sometimes once a day), so the box might not smell clean if it's "full" but again, that's only if you lift off the lid and stand right over the box (we use a covered Booda dome, which might help with containing any unabsorbed odor). Even our non-cat owning/loving friends have commented on the fact that our house NEVER smells like cat, that you wouldn't know we had cats if you didn't see them. The only gripe I have, is that boxes of the unscented version are sometimes plenty scented/perfumed, and our cats then smell like perfume after using the litter box....See MoreWhy dont dog owners pick up the poop in the winter?
Comments (44)Sorry Acadiafun I misunderstood - I entirely missed your other post stating you were referring to your own yard specifically. I should make clear that I am speaking specifically of an urban environment with many dogs per day travelling by and deposits left on other people's property for them to clean up and/or in common areas like parks and terraces meant for everyone to use. Houses/yards very close together - literally only 8-10 ft alley- which means if someone has a noticeable bad odor emanating from their yard it really is more of a nuisance than if the houses were spread out. Certainly I know many fine dogs/owners who are conciencious, But of those who aren't - my neighbors small pine trees near the sidewalk 2 or 3 feet into her yard were killed by several years of dog pee - got progressively browner on the dog pee side until finally they removed. My raised bed in front last summer wasnt doing too well and I wasnt sure why until I saw what was going on (and got yelled at by someone for daring to ask that she move her dog). Im not sure WHAT I will do with that bed - once one starts they all do. At least 5 times a year if not more I have to spend considerable effort removing the stink from my shoes - and last summer tossed a pair of fav flip flops away because I just could not get the stench out. That is MY frame of reference. Cities/urban environments are all about users making compromises - one persons rights end where anothers begin. BTW If I need a life so do some others here who have posted myriad times on this same topic!...See Morecindy_lou_who
